The Treasures of the Water

The Treasures of the Water

Activities in the EU Pavilion at Expo Zaragoza 2008. They centre on a poetry competition. All poems have to include two key words: water and Europe.

In order to encourage possible participants, a book of poems has been published, including the participation of 11 well-known poets, headed by Luis Eduardo Aute (well known Spanish singer-songwriter and poet). On 2 July, a press conference has been organized in order to launch the activities. On 3rd July, Luis Eduardo Aute will hold a poetry reading at 7 p.m. in the VIP room of the Pavilion. On 4th July, the poets who have taken part in the “Poems of the Water” book will present the book itself and hold a poetry reading at 7 p.m.

In addition, there are other activities (three times per week) using audio guides with information about the Pavilion (in three languages) and mini experiments that show the importance of water for life, consumption, the detection of problems and their solution. All this is linked to the profile raising of European water policy. The aim is to enhance public awareness on the importance of water, the need to respect water and avoid wasting it. In order to involve participants, a book of activities has been published with interesting activities, questions, riddles, etc.

At present, more than 200 persons (young persons and adults) have sent in a poem for the “Treasures of Water” competition.
